WHY’D YOU MARRY YOUR BEST FRIEND?

This playful and heartwarming story celebrates the everyday joys, deep connection and care that make a loving partnership.

When Rafael hears Uncle Alex and Theo are getting married, he asks a simple question that sparks a meaningful bedtime conversation: “Uncle Alex, why’d you marry your best friend?”

With warmth and playfulness, Uncle Alex shares how best friends explore the world together, comfort each other in tough times, and celebrate even the smallest joys.

Through relatable, everyday moments, Rafael discovers love thrives on friendship—just like the bond he sees between his Mommy and Daddy!

WHY’D YOU MARRY YOUR BEST FRIEND? is ideal for bedtime reading, classroom discussions, & library or bookstore collections.

The story offers families and educators a gentle entry point for thoughtful conversations about love and relationships, with an age-appropriate discussion guide included at the end.

As an openly gay educator and uncle, I wrote this story to fill a gap in children’s literature, offering a practical tool to foster empathy and understanding of same-sex relationships with warmth, ease, and clarity.
